During her address at Columbia University, Hillary Clinton, a two-time unsuccessful Democratic presidential candidate, faced a humiliating moment when she was interrupted by hecklers. The protestors accused her of being a “war criminal” and issued a warning that she “will burn.” The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about the use of sexual violence in conflict zones.
The Institute of Global Politics (IGP) at Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) co-hosted the event. It is worth noting that Hillary Clinton served as the chair of the IGP Faculty Advisory Board. However, the atmosphere quickly changed as a protestor’s outcry resonated throughout the hall.
Once Clinton was on the stage, protesters began screaming at her:
“You are a war criminal!…
“The people of Libya, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, and the people of America will never forgive you!
“You will burn!”
The protestor then began to chant, “Free Palestine!”
