Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) chief Towanda Thorne-James, who leads the El Paso Division, said fentanyl now contaminates “everything” they seize on the border.
Thorne-James said the Mexican government could be doing more to stop the deadly drug from being trafficked into the U.S.
“Fentanyl is in everything that we seize: It’s in meth, it’s in cocaine, in heroin — it’s in everything,” said the special agent.
According to Thorne-James, two cartels are responsible for “almost all” of the fentanyl coming into the United States, with much of the narcotics being sold on social media: “one click on your cellphone [and you are] having fentanyl and other drugs delivered.”
She added that she “firmly believe[s] Mexico could be doing more and should be doing more” to stop it from flowing into the country.
Thorne-James also voiced concern about the spread of so-called “rainbow fentanyl,” which resembles candy and can be ingested by small children.
“Nothing surprises me with the cartels,” she said.
“I’m appalled how they target our younger children with color-coded pills, pills that are made to look like candy, things to simulate chips or cookies or things we would normally eat,” she added.
“They have no morals and no concerns other than generating profit,” said the DEA agent.
Former president Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that illegal mass migration and the trade in drugs are “poisoning the blood” of the country.

The news comes just days after a police investigation in Manassas targeting narcotics distribution and illegal firearms ended on Jan. 30 with four arrests and the seizure of 66,000 fentanyl pills.

Manassas city police, working with the ATF and Prince William County police, conducted the “coordinated arrest” of four people “found to be in possession of a substantial amount of illegal narcotics and firearms,” Manassas police said in a news release.
Police also served a search warrant at a home in Manassas, seizing illegal narcotics and firearms, the release said.
Over the course of the investigation, police seized over $6,500 in cash, $40,000 in high-end jewelry, 66,000 fentanyl pills, 2,300 grams of marijuana, 40 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 142 grams of cocaine, and six firearms, according to the release.
Manassas police did not release the location of the search warrant or the names of those arrested, but said the charges against them include drug distribution, possession of narcotics while in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
